Transfer:
the tapes were retentioned, then the
azimuth was adjusted in the middle of the tape.
It was at that time, I realized the tape was
slow. I then cleaned and demagged my TASCAM
4 track with the pitch control and set the
speed by ear, which was checked by another
collector who said it sounded in key. I took
the opportunity to use the EQ on the Tascam
to turn up the treble a bit and the boomy
bass down a bit. The tapes were then played
into a Yamaha sound card and the sampling was
at 44.1/24. Soundforge 5.0 was used to maximize
the volume to 0db by increasing the volume
equally over the 4 sides by the amount of the
greatest peak sample.
After using r8brain to resample the files to
44.1/16, CDWAV and TLH were used to chop and
pack the files for consumption.
The first song is muddy however, it gets better
as time goes on and by the 3rd song, it's crisp!
Audience is a bit chatty
From what I understand Golden Bear was a restaurant, during a few songs it sounds like I can hear silver wear against a plate, so i do believe this was recorded at Golden bear.
Some words from me:
I Bought this tape of eBay, from someone who was selling a deceased deadheads tapes, she listed all the tapes for sale as SBD/AUD mix, which was a complete lie.
Tape label says 2-15-78, so that is what I will have to believe this tape is. I compared a few tracks with other '78 shows and I don’t hear any particular crowd noise at the end of the tracks or beginning that match other dates, so I assume this is the correct date. I have never seen this date listed on any set list pages or databases, so I was a little skeptical about the date being correct. The Tape’s labels list tape 1 as set 1 and the other tape as set 2, but since there are duplicate songs in set 1 and 2 I assume set 1 was an early show and set 2 was a late show.
